ONAP uses the set version goal to update their versions before deploying their jar artifacts

into the staging repository. 

For example: https://jenkins.onap.org/view/integration/job/integration-master-version-manifest-release-version-java-daily/configure

gerrit-maven-stage needs this possibly as a conditional step to be able to allow this extra goal.
